In the Interests of Full Disclosure:
I Am Not A Politician

The totality of my experience with politics can be summarized as follows:

On or about April 17, 1970, The Purdue Exponent (West Lafayette, Indiana) reported that I and my running mate, Jeff Sayers, received a total of 777 votes in an election for Student Body President; losing to Stan Jones and his running mate, Alan Beecher, who was reported to have received 3900 votes; the editor of The Purdue Exponent at the time having endorsed the Jones-Beecher ticket (the goal of which was to make student government “a bold, dynamic and active group”), irrespective (and, perhaps, unaware) of the fact that the principal goals of the Cecil-Sayers campaign were:

1) the institution of a Program on Non-Violence (which exists today as a Peace Studies Minor in the College of Liberal Arts: );

2) the elimination of the Scholastic Aptitude Test as an admission requirement for black students; and,

3) the appointing of a Student Representative to the Board of Trustees.

And since, respectively, 1974 and 1978, my primary focus has been on researching the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Nag Hammadi Codices, and understanding the Revelations I have received.
